The next day, Kukui comes by your house and tells you to meet him on Route 1. Go right and up, and meet him there. He shows you how to catch Pokémon by demonstrating on a wild Grubbin. Afterwards he gives you ten Poké Balls and five Potions. He then tells you to have an adventure and start catching some new Pokémon. You can also go home and your mom will heal your Pokémon for you. She may also give you a Heal Ball.

Note

Wild Pokémon cannot escape from Poké Balls prior to the festival at Iki Town.

As you walk through the first patch of grass, you'll have a forced encounter with a wild Grubbin. Just past the second patch of grass is a Poké Ball. Keep going up the trail and you'll be stopped by a Lass.

Keep going up and you'll face a Youngster.

Just northwest of him through the grass is a Potion. Go northwest and you will find a Rockruff that wants to play. You can try different actions. Rockruff will become more friendly and follow you around if you have played with it. Go west and you'll run into a Preschooler.

Behind him in the grass is another Potion. As you keep heading west you'll meet up with a strange duo who seem to be looking for something called the Blinding One. When they leave, head up the stairs to get to Iki Town for the festival.

Iki Town

Hala will meet you and tell you about the festival. Go north and you'll find Hau with his first partner Pokémon. Kukui and Lillie will meet up with you there. Hala will heal your Pokémon and asks if you're ready to battle. Say yes (if you are), and you'll be led to the battlefield. Hala will say some opening remarks, and you'll then battle Hau. Hala introduces you both and the battle will begin.

After defeating Hau, Hala will congratulate you and give you the Z-Power Ring that he created from the Sparkling Stone you picked up earlier. In order to use the Z-Power Ring, however, you need to collect Z-Crystals. As it turns out, Tapu Koko seems to have a mission for you: to start your island challenge! You have to now travel to the four islands of Alola and become the island challenge champion.

After a cutscene, Lillie will talk to you for a bit, then Kukui will lead you home. The strange duo from before speak to each other for a bit after this about controlling the Blinding One's light and go to check out another site.

At your house, you will rest up for the day before heading out on your journey.
